Loria says no extension for Giancarlo Stanton in 2013

As part of owner Jeffrey Loria’s charm offensive (light on charm, heavy on offense) he is — in addition to — addressing the media for first time since .

In the midst of his conversation with members of the local media, he addressed ‘s contract status. Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post :

“We are hoping that that moment will come but Giancarlo needs to play this year. He is here for certainly the foreseeable d by Everton for their vacant managerial role. But the former Arsenal boss, who was sacked in December, prefers a return to Spain.”Everton was interested in me and I thought about it. Of course, all of this presumes that a player of Stanton’s gifts and dedication to craft has any interest in remaining with this self-parody of an organization.

In a related matter, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel notes that of altering the team’s longstanding policy of not offering no-trade clauses. Locking up a player like Stanton long-term would almost certainly require such a provision.

Unless, like, say, Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle, he’s content to take Loria at his sterling, unimpeachable word.

General manager Brian Cashman admitted the team is looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder and another player who can fill the DH role. He doesn’t feel as if he has to move quickly, though, saying a number of impact players have signed in January in recent seasons.

The team had contacted outfielder earlier in the offseason, but the 32-year-old outfielder is likely seeking a two-year deal. What can we expect from R.A. Dickey in 2013 and beyond?

(Getty Images)

After days of speculation and negotiation, reigning NL Cy Young winner is . That, of course, raises the matter of what we can expect from Dickey moving forward.

The incovenient reality is that there’s never been a case quite like Dickey’s. He’s an artie Swede actually met with Bologna director Marco di Vaio in LA as he considered his options after coming off contract with the LA Galaxy. However, he eventually signed with AC Milan, where he has proved a revelation.Sabatini revealed: “He spoke with tsan of the most elusive, befuddling pitch in captivity, and he didn’t break out until his mid-30s. All of that makes projecting him outward an uncommon challenge. But try we must!

Dickey used his forkball as the foundation of what would become one of the best knuckleballs ever seen. The pitch took years to master, but master it he did. While Dickey’s skyscraping 2012 stands above his pre-existing work, he’s been at another level for a while.

For instance, here are his combined numbers from 2010 and 2011: 383 IP, 3.08 ERA. So he was working at an “ace-like” level even before his work in 2012. What distinguishes his 2012 season is the leap in strikeout rate, from 5.8 in 2011 to 8.9 in 2012. Sustainable? Signs point to yes.

First, look to the tools we typically use to identify outlier pitching performances — BABIP, home-run/fly-ball percentage, and percentage of base-runners stranded — and you find little cause for concern. The BABIP and HR/FB numbers are in line with 2010-11 levels, and the strand rate is just modestly elevated. That strand rate may regress in 2013, but even if it does Dickey still figures to perform at a high level. Let’s probe a little more deeply into why that appears to be the case …

Courtesy of the most excellent , have a look at Dickey’s velocity chart …

As you can see, Dickey’s knuckler (represented by the color … lime? ochre? sad  lime? jaundice?) has steadily added “oomph” over the years. That bodes well for his ability to sustain his success (knucklefeat to Lecce. However, he insists he was to blame for the 2-1 loss.Mazzarri said, “I want to apologise to the fans, as they were exceptional despite this being our worst performance for a very long time.“We got almost everything wrong tonight. Ters in the high 70s/low 80s are simply unprecedented) — adding mph at an age when conventional pitchers are shedding them. Here’s another good sign for Dickey …

Dickey’s vertical movement, after dipping a bit in 2010 and 2011, spiked this past season, back to 2008-09 levels. It must be noted that Dickey wasn’t effective in 2008 and 2009, but the increased vertical movement in tandem with the improved command (substantially better control, substantially higher K%) he showed in 2012, suggest that one key to Dickey’s surge has been his ability to harness that increased movement. Add it all up, and it looks like a knuckleball that’s continuing to evolve.

It’s no surprise, then, that Dickey least season went to his knuckle-piece more than 85 percent of the time, which is a career-high. There’s no getting around the fact that Dickey is 38, but he almost exclusively throws a pitch that helps one to defy the typical aging curve. And that pitch has been getting even better. Even if his movement charts and gun readings plateau, Dickey’s knuckler will remain one of the best go-to pitches in the game today.

Dickey may be g the departure of club legend Gianfranco Zola. The Italian will not be part of Lampard’s new staff after spending the season as an assistant to Maurizio Sarri.Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, before Zola’s departure was made official, Lampaa novelty, but he’s a novelty who’s very good at getting major-league hitters out. Expect that to continue in .

As big stretch begins, Yankees see some needed progress with Pettitte

(Getty Images)

NEW YORK — The made a minor adjustment with their rotation for this weekend’s series with the , pushing and up a day, and pushing back to Tuesday’s game at .But as they look ahead to the playoffs, the fact is that none of those three are as important to the Yankees as Andy Pettitte is.So as important as these next 10 days seem to the Yankees, with two series against the second-place Orioles sandwiched around three games with the third-place Rays, what happens with Pettitte over the next 10 days could be even more significant.Pettitte’s mood was positive Friday, because he was able to throw 20 pitches off a bullpen mound, for the first time since he broke his left ankle on June 27. Pettitte said he felt “really good,” but he also said that he didn’t really push hard on the ankle this time.It was a big step, but not the big step.”I’m getting real close to being over the hump,” Pettitte said. “It is a relief.”Imagine how the Yankees feel. They got back from the disabled list last week, and they rely on him as their ace. They’ve been thrilled with , who has 12 win and a 2.98 ERA going into Friday’s start agadrid ace Eden Hazard is a doubt for their Champions League clash with Manchester City.Hazard was taken off injured during Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss against Levante on Saturday evening. The Belgian only returned from a three-month absence with an ankle iainst the Orioles. But Pettitte is supester United’s friendly clash with Leeds United in Perth on Wednear-old played 35 games for Bristol last season, but is refusing to sign a new contract. It means his club are willing to cash in on him, but would like a fee of around £8 million.Per Sky Sports News, Fulham are interested but are not prepared to go esday. J.C. Romero opts out of Orioles contract; becomes free agent

Veteran left-handed reliever J.C. Romero decided to opt out of his Oa 18 months ago.But he recalled to Fui Clear: “My signing with Barça was on the verge of breaking. It was a very complicated negotiation because Gremio wanted to get more money, and I understand it because after all they trained me from the age of 1rioles deal after a month at Triple-A Norfolk for them and is now a free agent.

Romero was 1-0 with two saves, a 2.51 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings pitching in Triple-A for the Oriolesat Manchester United or elsewhere. The 30-year-old, who is currently competing at Copa America with Chile, has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And Zamarano believes the former Barcelona attacker must prioritise p. Romero has extensive experience and could be a viable lefty option for several teams in need. Scouts say he has looked good at Norfolk.

Romero, 36, started the year with the Cardinals after spending 2007-2011 with the Phillies, with only a brief stop in Colorado late in ’11. He is 34-28 with a 4.15g to dig deep in his squad this season.Steven Alzate and Aaron Connolly are teenagers who have recently made their debuts as Albion’s injury list includes the likes of Leandro Trossard, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Leon Balogun.Speaking before Wednesday’s ERA lifetime and could be a consideration for teams looking for a lefty in the pen. Pro Bowler Kyle Rudolph doesn’t sound completely confident he’ll be playing for the Vikings in 2019

tight end has basically spent his entire offseason in footba AZ Alkmaar’s pitch ahead of their Europa League group stage clash on Thursday night.United will face the Dutch side at Cars Jeans Stadion in The Hague, a temporary ground after a section of AZ’s stadium roof collapsed. The new stadium has an artificll purgatory. Although Rudolph is currently a member of the Vikings, he doesn’t seem to have any idea if he’ll actually be playing for them in 2019.

With Rudolph set to count roughly $7.6 million against the salary cap this year, there’s been a lot of speculation that the Vikings might look to cut or. For Minnesota, the math is pretty simple: If Rudolph is still on the roster once the Vikings get their 2019 draft picks under contract, they’ll only be left with about $800,000 in salary cap space. On the other hand, if they cut or trade him, they’ll have some breathing room under the cap with more than $8 million available.

The two sides had been working on a possible extension that for the upcoming season, but those talks fell apart on Friday. As things currently stand, Rudolph’s contract situation in Minnesota is so tenuous that no one sester City boss Pep Guardiola was left frustrated after being denied victory over Tottenham by VAR.City were celebrating after Gabriel Jesus appeared to have scored in injury time, but the goal was ruled out because the ball had brushed Aymeric Laporeems to know if he’ll be sticking around.

“We’re in a tough situation as a team, you can’t keep everybody, you can’t pay everybody,” Rudolph said.

The Vikings have tried to pay everybody — they’ve given big contracts to , and over the past 12 months — but it appears that Rudolph might end up being the odd guy out.

Although talks cut off last week, the two-time Pro Bowler is hoping that his camp can still work something out with the Vikings.

“I certainly hope so,” Rudolph said. “This is where we want to be. This is where I want to finish my career, this iicated Manchester City are already thinking about next season.City look unlikely to catch Liverpool in the Premier League this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having a 14 point lead and game in hand.”No. It’s unrealistic to think about that,” Guardis where I started my career.”

One thing that’s also important to Rudolph, besides finishing his career in Minnesota, is putting all of this contract drama behind him. The tight end wouldn’t put a deadline on when he wants the talks to be wrapped up, but you can tell he definitely doesn’t want them dragging on.

“I don’t want to be dealing with this come OTAs, minicamp, training camp, so the sooner the better and I think that’s for both parties,” Rudolph said. “I think the Vikings want clarity. I think we want clarity.”

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was asked about the Rudolph situation on Monday and he was just as vague about his tight end’s future. On one hand, Zimmer wants to keep Rudolph, but the Vikings coach also acknowledged that keeping Rudolph might not be economically possible.

“I’ve had conversations with Kyle and quite honestly I really love all my players,” Zimmer said, . “We expect Kyle to be here, but sometimes business gets in the way.”

If business does get in the way and Rudolph gets shipped somewhere else, it seems that the tight end, who has spent his entire eight-year career in Minnesota, is starting to mentally prepare himself for that possibility.

“I’ve stated it many times: My family, myself, we want to be here, and we’re ,” Rudolph said, via the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “But that doesn’t mean if the alternative happens, and we do get traded, change happens. We’ve been so fortunate to be in one place for eight years that you don’t really realize how many guys change teams on a yearly basis.”

If you’re wondering where Rudolph might end up if he gets dealt, I wrote an article last week that gave the break down on seven trades that need to happen this offseason and Rudolph was at the top of the list. To see where .

If that’s not enough for you, our Sean Wagner-McGough went into more details on Rudolph and made a list of the six best potential landing spots for the tight end if the Vikings decide to trade him. You .

Emmanuel Sanders on whether he’d restructure contract with Broncos: ‘It ain’t happening’

Owed just a hair under $13 million, The Broncos can , per Spotrac. He’ll turn 32 next month. He’s And he’s apparently unwilling to rework his contract to remain in Denver.

Take it from Sanders, who tweeted on Tuesday that a restructured contract “ain’t happening.”

The prting XI.Kane could look to leave Tottenham if their early season struggles continue.Speaking on Drivetime on talkSPORT, Murphy said: “Would Liverpool and Really, why would Sanders go out of his way to stay with the Broncos by taking less money?

He’s been talking about  — and rightly so. Ever since retired, Sanders has been forced to catch passes from subpar starting quarterbacks like , , , and . The Broncos just traded for , who . There’s no reason for Sanders to take less money to stay with a Broncos team that doesn’t have a good quarterback and is stuck in the same division as the and . He’d be wasting away one of the final years of his career.

Considering where he’s at in his career, Sanders would be absolutely right to prioritize money and winning. Given his age and recent injury, it seems unlikely that Sanders will land a lucrative contract if he gets released by the Broncos. But he could pick a team that has a better chance of winning in the short term than the Broncos, and a receiver-needy team that feels like they’re a contender could be willing to take a chance on a player with 7,024 receiving yards and 37 touory Delap says son Liam won’t be following his famous trait of long throw-ins.Liam Delap is now part of Manchester City’s academy after joining last summer from Derby County.“I think he was put off when he was about an under-10!” Delap senior told chdown catches in what has been a productive nine-year career.

After splitting those nine years between Pittsburgh and Denver, it certainly looks like Sanders will be spending his 10th season with a new team.
