Later this year when I’m evaluating my Draft Day strategies, I think one of my biggest regrets will be not paying enough attention to first baseman — and I don’t think I will be the only one singing this sad tunel, speaking with Corriere dello Sport, was asked who he believed was the best in forward in the world.“You are expecting me to name a player who scores 40 times every season,” explained the Colombian.“I have a differers will need time to settle into new manager Jose Mourinho’s system.Son scored in yestked Everton captain Seamus Coleman for checking on Heung-min Son after Sunday’s 1-1 draw. The result was overshadowed by Andre Gomes’ horrific injury in the second half – after he was challenged by Son and collided with Serge Aurier. Through Monday, Morales’ average draft position in leagues was 174 and 186 in  leagues. He’s been translating into a late-round Fantasy pick, and I think he’s going to end up as one of 2013’s biggest Draft Day steals.

You can fault me for putting too much stock into Morales’ spring numbers (.327 average, six HRs, 13 RBI in 15 games), but he’s just building off of what he did last season. Morales hit .278 with a .567 slugging percentage, .896 OPS, 13 homers, 15 doubles and 34 RBI in his final 51 games.

Morales had to go through an adjustment period last season because he missed so much time with an ankle injury. But it appears Morales is back to his old form and that’s great news for Fantasy owners.

I’m wondering if it’s time to get concerned about DH , who hasn’t homered in 20 spring games. The spring isn’t a time Trumbo usually struggles. In his previous two spring trainings, he’s hit .310 with 12 homers, 13 doubles and 36 RBI in 48 games. This spring, he’s battingiker Lautaro Martinez. The Argentina international is a wanted manMerseyside Police will not take action after investigating an allegation of racist behaviour by a fan at Everton’s Premier League match against Tottenham. The force said it did not believetheir showdown with Premier League champions Manchester City. Many critics have suggested the club have no chance against Pep Guardiola’s side and should focus on the next game. Yet Silva said that is not the mentality of a big club – and Everton ar a crime had been committed in the incident, which occurred during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.Everton launched their own investigation and that is ongoing. after his exploits for Antonio Conte’s side.ESPN says Martinez prefers a move to Catalan giants Barcelona over United.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can now add the 22-year-old to his list of mi .255 (14 for 55) with no homers and four RBI.

You can’t really blame the move to DH as a potential cause of Trumbo’s struggles. He hit .310 with a .571 slugging percentage and .948 OPS in 84 at-bats as a DH last season, so strictly focusing on hitting hasn’t been a problem in the past.

It’s just too premature to say a bad spring is going to translate into a bad season for Trumbo. Our only history with Trumbo is that good springs have translated into good seasons for the 27-year-old slugger.

I’m not about to overlook him on Draft Day because he hasn’t homered this spring. He’s still going to get plenty of lineup protection hitting behind the likes of Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton, so my concerns are still minimal when it comes to Trumbo.

2013 Team Preview: Toronto Blue Jays

| Blue Jays: | |

The enter the season in a quite different light than they have entered any season for the past decade-plus: They are in the spotlight. No team garnered as many headlines as the Blue Jays in the offseason, as they went out and added , , , , and more. Will this be enough to make a 73-89 team into a contender? Absolutely, because we must consider how much injuries ravaged the Jays last season. They used 12 different starting pitchers, was held to 92 games and was held to 125. Also, there is expected improvement from some younger players like Lawrie and , in addition to a bounce-back season from former ace .

Remember when the ? Maybe not, since they have made two blockbuster trades since then, but Izturis could serve as a backup at second base, shortstop and third base while being fully capable of starting several times a week. He has a career .337 on-base percentage, good speed (17 steals in 19 attempts last season) and is a capable defender. That’s a pretty good player to have around as an insurance policy at three different positions, especially since the Blue Jays had such major injury woes last season.

“A limited number Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell has revealed Didier Drogba was in tears by Jose Mourinho’s sacking.Sidwell recalls how none of the players agreed with a decision which destroyed the “family culture” in the Chelsea dressing room.”I’ve been at of saves caused Janssen’s breakthrough to go by the wayside last year. But while , and made history with the kind WHIPs they were putting up, Janssen’s 0.86 mark ranked fifth among closers with at least 50 innings. And it’s not like his 2.54 ERA or 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings were anything to sneeze at. So then … about those saves. Beginning 2013 as the team’s closer will help. He didn’t claim ninth-inning duties from an injured Sergio Santos until May last year, and by then, the Blue Jays starting rotation was so decimated by injuries that a closer was hardly necessary. They either outslugged the competition, or they lost. Obviously, that formula is destined to change this year with all the upgrades they made this offseason, particularly to their starting rotation. Add, say, 15 to last year’s save total, and you’ll see why Janssen is a bargain after the top 20 closers go off the board.” — Scott White []

I think it’s how well-rounded the offense is. There are speedy table-setter types in Reyes, Bonifacio and Izturis. There are two potential 40-homer power hitters in Encarnacion and Bautista. There’s the power-speed combo in Lawrie and a possible hit-machine in Cabrera. As long as the Jays stay healthy — which is a huge question after last season — they will be able to beat teams offensively in a number of ways. Teams this well-rounded are great bets to stave off extended team-wide slumps.

The back end of the bullpen. Janssen has never been a full-time closer, Santos is coming off surgery and Delabar has had control issues at times. Overall, I don’t think this is a huge issue and the trio is more than capable enough to have a py Aston Villa following a training ground bust-up.The on-loan Chelsea man reportedly headbutted Villa teammate Jota, with his future at the club now being discussed.Phillips says he’s surprised about the conduct of his former Leicester teammate, but roductive season, but I had to name something here, and there really isn’t a glaring weakness on this ballclub.

For the first time since 1993, the Blue Jays win the World Series. They definitely have enough talent, and this should be the ultimate goal for this club in 2013.

There are obvious areas where the wheels could totally fall off here. Reyes, Johnson and Morrow are injury risks, to various degrees. Which Melky are the Jays gonna get? What if Encarnacion’s power surge last year was a fluke? What if Janssen spits the bit as closer and Santos can’t regain pre-injury form? What if Romero is just as bad as he was last season? What if Lawrie’s all-out style recklessy injures him? Rasmus and Lind are enigmas offensively as well. Dickey’s old and last season’s numbers are an outlier compared to the rest of his career. In the tough AL East, if everything that could possibly go wrong does, I could see the Blue Jays ending up in last place.

Honestly, though, what are the odds that every single bad thing listed above happens and nothing good happens? Very, very low. There will be injuries, but every team deals with those. Dickey’s 2012 season came from out of nowhere because he started throwing his knuckler harder, not because he just started to get lucky out of the blue, and Encarnacion has always shown the ability to hit for big-time power when he’s in the lineup.

It’s tough to predict how Cabrera, Rasmus and Lind will fare, but overall there is so much talent here that I don’t see a realistic scenario where they miss the playoffs. In fact, I predict they win the AL East for the first tining over a loan deal for Islam Slimani.Inter are turning to the Algeria international after being informed that Chelsea were removing Olivier Giroud from their transfer list.Slimani is currently on-loan with AS Monaco, but both parties are willing tme since …

Phillies’ Amaro has faith in Delmon Young: ‘He’s not an anti Semite’

content_img

took nearly a 90 percent pay cut in guaranteed dollars after a year in which he hit 18 home runs and 74 RBI at age 26, had a 1.000-plus OPS in both the ALCS and World Series and won the ALCS MVP.

And he may be lucky to get what he got.

No, it’s not mostly because he is disliked by the statistics crowd for his extremely low 0.6 lifetime WAR (and worse -1.2 this past season). The real issue is an incident in New York early last season that led to him pleading guilty to aggravated assault in a hate crime.

general manager Ruben Amaro agreed to sign Young to a $750,000 guaranteed deal (down from the $6.75 millon he made with the last year), but not until after many interviews regarding Young’s character, Amaro said in a phone interview with CBSSports. Amaro Lampard has shrugged off claims from Jason Cundy.Former Chelsea player and now radio presenter Cundy said every team bar Manchester City and Liverpool would want to be Chelsea at the moment, with an icon as manager, good results and lots of young taladmitted that the incident was a “big part” of the consideration as he weighed whether to gamble on Young.

Amaro said he talked to rabbis from Philadelphia and Detroit (the Detroit rabbi knows Young well, according to Amaro), the Philadelphia Anti Defamation League and Young himself before giving the player a chance.

“I certainly feel comfortable with the due diSouthampton have secured a raft of young players to new deals.Nathan Tella, Dan N’Lundulu, Oludare Olufunwa and Kieran Freeman have all put pen to paper on fresh terms at the club.Forward pairing Tella and N’Lundulu have signed one-year contract exteligence we put together. But it’s really up to Delmon to prove us right,” Amaro said.

Amaro was a particularly interesting GM to make this decision, given his own background.

“I’m part Jewish, so it’s a concern to me,” said Amaro, a 2009 inductee into the Philadelphia Jewish Hall of Fame whose mother is Jewish.

Ultimately, Amaro concluded that Young shouldn’t be kept from employment with them based on one incident, no matter how ugly. Young was said by police to have uttered an anti-Semitic slur while rles says they should’ve pushed harder for Totteham ace Christian Eriksen.United legend Scholes admits he would have loved the Dane to join his former club.”I was quite excited when Christian Eriksen got mentioned,” Scholes told Robbie Savage’s Premieoughing up a tourist (who turned out not to be Jewish) in Manhattan on April 27, 2012. Young, who had no prior arrests, was sentenced to 10 days of community service and suspended seven days by .

“He’s not an anti-Semite. He made a mistake,” Amaro said. “Hopefully, he can move on from that.”

Amaro pointed out that Young’s two agents, Arn Tellem and Joel Wolfe, are Jewish. But the key for Amaro was a meeting with Young a few weeks back. Amaro said it was a “very long” meeting.

“I got a good feel for the player,” Amaro said.

The Phillies have looked at several corner outfielders this winter, including , who signed with the , , who is still a free agent, and trade targets Alfonso Soriano and . Young gives them a proven run producer at the right price (he reportedly can make $3.5 million if he hits his incentives).

Young allows the Phillies to stay under the luxury tax threshold (they finished last year a few hundred thousand below that limit). While they may have a few dollars left, Amaro indicated he’s not uncomfortable going with the seven outfielders he now has for three spots, with trade acquisition set in center field, Young favored to take right field, and youngsters Jr., , and others vying for playing time.

Amaro said their reports suggest Young will do better in right field than left, where he struggled mightily the past two years with Detroit, contributing to his awful WAR numbers. The Phillies see Young improving since there’s no DH option for them.

“We’re hopeful he can come back and be much better defensively than he was the last couple years,” Amaro said.

Young also had an ankle procedure that should help his range, though Amaro admitted it may mean he won’t be ready for Opening Day.

“We’re not going to rush him,” Amaro said.

The expectation, though, is that Young will do enough to be the team’s right fielder, and there’s hope he could even fill the spot of the righthanded-hitting No. 5 hitter they’ve been seeking. Amaro pointed out he filled such a role for the AL champion Tigers. Young, still only 27, had 112 RBI in 2010 for the .

Young filled his role best in the postseason, and three more postseason homers made it a Tigers career record eight for him. He had 1.186 OPS in the ALCS to win the MVP award, then a 1.043 OPS in the World Series.

Amaro see the Phillies marriage as one that can be “mutually beneficial.”

In more ways than one, Young certainly has a lot to prove.

Ozzie Guillen’s press conference apology
